Motivating the Unmotivated!
You already know, though just to refresh. Motivation radiates positive energy, it propels and thrusts us forward, whereas de-motivation is a the opposite. It slows us down with the unmotivated bringing things to a stand still.
For staff showing signs of de-motivation, or for those who appear to be hardened un-motivatee’s, they are still likely to be motivated, yet somewhere along the way they have lost their enthusiasm. Naturally one may question, how can they act and react this way yet still like or even love their job?
Let’s explore this.
When we come across those that lack motivation, what are they really conveying? On the surface it’s often seen as a temporary blip and that they will soon bounce back, yet beneath the surface and their deeper issues are easily sensed. Though life being as it is, often they are just left to sort themselves out.
As examples, John liked his job, yet didn’t enjoy his present task. Mary liked her task, yet didn’t enjoy her job. We’ve all come across situations like this and with a little time and space, it’s assumed they will rebound. Yet the reality is that more often than not, they don’t. Well, they do, yet don’t…… That is, because they will not be consciously aware of their source of de-motivation, on the surface most will display a happy face, while underneath de-motivation is festering towards “unmotivated”.
For experienced HR professionals and Bosses, de-motivation is a sign somethings “off balance”. Yet when it comes to the “unmotivated” the signal is stronger, one that can present a bigger and deeper challenge.
When someone is unmotivated their inner-self is conveying “I don’t want to do this”. Yet as this dialogue is happening unconsciously, it’s like an invisible force pulling them away from their current task, function or job etc. They won’t be aware of it and it won’t go away on it’s own.
As the human system acts and reacts the way it’s programmed, tapping into and changing their transpersonal side of life is one way to release their natural flow of motivation. Though please bear in mind that if the de-motivated do not know the source of their de-motivation. If they are inexperienced in this area, then how can they be expected to become motivated? Conversely, if their underlying issues are sensed and overlooked then how can they be expected to perform a job with excellence.
Do you have a person or group of people that have become de-motivated? If so and they are holding the business back, a solution is to award yourself a secret mission. That mission is yours and only yours, it’s a subjective mission not to be shared with another. The task to set your self is to discover, unlock and release their flow of natural positive motivation. Though you might now be saying “why would I want to do this and why would that be my responsibility?” The short answer is that it’s not, yet left unattended, the de-motivated naturally gravitate to unmotivated, which as you will already know, can have a negative impact upon others as well as the entire business.
Before forming an opinion, or passing a professional judgment, or making any company decisions, allow the following to permeate your mind. That is, money and materialism, team building and buying into a group culture have all been key motivators which still exist and work today, and if they work for you in the present then continue. Yet if on the other hand your business/company is experiencing a level of de-motivated or unmotivated staff and theres a sense that traditional methods are no longer as effective, it could be a sign to look for and deploy new ways of motivation.
What are the new ways of motivation?
TiA is a new way of motivation, yet as this is not a sales pitch – An article on the new generation of people is accessible here >>>>>
Contrary to what society has educated, away from the workplace and behind closed doors most people are motivated by “their overall journey in life”. This may better be described as “one’s bigger picture“, or “your life path“. That is, you, me, us, them, we are all on a journey called life which sometimes goes to plan, other times life has a plan for us.
For many, an income plays a key role in that journey and often a job, career or occupation is centred around that income. Yet not all individuals are the same, and what motivates one will differ for another.
Science has discovered that our career takes up as little as 5% thought time, with life’s bigger picture consuming the rest. And when we really get down to asking ourselves about the nature of life and reality, and what role we play in that bigger picture, something extraordinary happens.
In brief. Inbuilt into us all is a primal instinct and motivational drive to advance, grow, and develop. The same way you may awake every morning to ask “what will my day be like, how will work go, and what has life got in store for me today?” – All natural questions….. yet look a little deeper and you may discover that this self questioning is in fact a role playing out.
Right now you, me, us, they, them, we are all playing a role in reality and that role is contributing to life’s bigger picture, i.e. your bigger picture. There’s only one – your picture and while one might say, “that’s all well and good!, yet it’s way too deep for me and my professional life right now”. The suggestion being made is that both our professional and personal worlds are one. It is impossible for them to be separate which is why John will take his work home and Mary will bring her home-life to work. We all do this. A way forward and a way to increase the flow of natural motivation is to embrace them both. Bring them together. One cannot park personal emotions, thoughts and memories in the workplace parking-lot, the same way one cannot take off their working thoughts, emotions and experiences before they leave work. All is one, everything goes with us everywhere and it’s down to us to acknowledge, embrace, and develop this truth.
If your business or company targets and goals are in direct alignment with all four aspects of an individual then things will positively flow forward. That is, provided the task, job, or post meets with their 1 – physical, 2 – emotional, 3 – mental and 4 – transpersonal path, then motivation will naturally flow. If just one is out of sync, then de-motivation is the outcome, and where the transpersonal self is out of balance, the end result is “unmotivated”. This is very important and key to motivation – Though to check for authenticity, monitor these words. Mentally mark in your mind, 3 weeks, 3 months, 3 years and come back to re-check.
While it’s not so difficult for an individual to pick up responsibility for their own physical well-being, and there are now many emotional intelligence and mental well-being programs.
The Transpersonal side
At the top of humans evolutionary ladder is what Abraham Maslow termed as “transpersonal”. In it’s most basic state, transpersonal refers to an individual who has developed the ability to go beyond their physical emotional and mental states to tap into and operate from life’s bigger picture.
Reality has four elements (not the only four), yet the key four that can help transform, thrust, boost and propel motivation are;
1 – Physical – 3D bones, muscle, body
2 – Emotional – Feelings, i.e., judgments, opinions, etc
3 – Mental – Thinking, thoughts, mind, etc
4 – Transpersonal – non-physical – metaphysical – spiritual – life’s bigger picture
An example of such could be viewed this way. Imagine you get sidetracked into doing a task, a job, or a function thats not innately aligned with your bigger picture, then the first you’ll know about it is when de-motivation sets in. There will be a nudge, a feeling, a small voice conveying that your off track. Whether this intuitive impulse is listened to or overlooked is a conscious choice, yet this is the transpersonal side.
Give it some thought and run the exercise through your own self….. think of a time where you performed a task, a function, or job that you were not entirely happy with, one where you never quite felt aligned to. Intuitively it didn’t feel right, yet due to other factors you did it anyway. Can you recall that time?
Now recall how much motivation was present? Can you recall a time in your working life where this experience was encountered? If so, this is the transpersonal part of your being. It’s a part of your life. It’s who and what you are. In other words, it’s a quarter of your reality. Yet as there will already be an awareness, eat clean pure foods, exercise and look after the mind, take care of your emotions and ( as a general ) good health is the outcome.
Transpersonal is the same – nurture and develop this aspect and a whole new level of positive existence emerges.
You might now ask – “what’s that got to do with my staff, employees or colleagues?”
Their picture is your bigger picture and vice versa. Your picture is a key part of their bigger picture – together is one and one is all……. ask your inner-self, tap into and ask yourself if this is a truth!
There is only one truth – Your truth! Not the business, company, bosses, employees, clients or customers – There is only one truth – Your truth!
This is not an instruction, it’s a universal principle that governs, balances and evolves humanity. Develop yourself and in turn that will develop others. Develop others and that in-turn will advance you. Overlook that principle and life will gravitate backwards, practice and you will soon experience life moving forward. Test, observe and monitor it – You will discover how wonderful the transpersonal applications are.
Put the ego, pride or prejudice in the way, prevent, slow-down, sidestep, take-out, or fire others, and while doing. Observe, monitor, stand back, and watch what happens!
Help, assist, grow, develop, train, coach, mentor, motivate, inspire, enthuse, employ, uplift, and promote others, and while doing. Observe, monitor, stand back, and watch what happens! The motivational thrust boost in life is Transpersonal Development – TiA
It’s not the individual that needs to be motivated, it’s life that motivates the individual. One way of motivating the unmotivated is achieved by tapping into and nurturing each and everyones bigger picture. If you don’t know and are not familiar with yours, and cannot sense others. Perhaps it’s time for “transpersonal development”. It’s a key (( not the only key )) yet it’s a golden key to thrust, boost and grow staff, employees, executive motivation. It’s used by elites, governments, and leading educational institutions around the world, and as outlined above, it’s been in operation for almost 50 years.
